From the proceeds of LSF Charity Dinner 2017, A$ 2,000 was provided to Karuna Trust http://www.karunalanka.org/ and the Association of Community Ophthalmologists of Sri Lanka – SLACO. This, together with some other funds collected in Sri Lanka was used to provide urgently needed medicines and medical care to flood affected people in 4 locations: Morawaka and Ransagoda (Matara District); Eheliyagoda and Ellawala (Ratnapura District).
More than 100 patients were seen in each location (over 400 in total) and all necessary medicines were given free of charge.
In addition, LSF received donations from friends and well-wishers for flood relief work, amounting to A$ 2,900. These funds, together with funds raised locally in Sri Lanka, were used to provide: dry rations (rice, sugar, milk powder, dhal, canned fish, spices, toiletries etc); bed linen; towels; and, clothing for 120 flood affected families (over 500 persons) in Galpatha, Kalutara District, through the Lions Club, Wellawatte West.
